Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has removed star winger Ousmane Dembele from the team that will face Arsenal on Tuesday following a dressing room argument.
According to French media, Ousmane Dembele will miss Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League match against Arsenal due to disciplinary concerns.
The former Barcelona winger, 27, came to Ligue 1 last summer and has begun the current season in scorching form, scoring four goals in six league appearances for PSG.
Dembele, on the other hand, will not participate when the French champions go to London in the middle of the week to face Arsenal. The news was announced by French website L’Equipe on Monday morning, only 24 hours before their match against Mikel Arteta’s team.
Dembele’s absence is attributed to a ‘heated confrontation’ with the club’s head coach, Luis Enrique, after their 3-1 victory against Stade Rennais on Friday night.
While it is unknown what their disagreement was about, Enrique has opted to exclude Dembele from the party traveling to London in midweek. It’s unclear whether the attacker will return to PSG’s lineup when they face OGC Nice this weekend.
PSG defeated Girona 1-0 in their first Champions League match, while Arsenal were subjected to a dismal 0-0 draw away to Atalanta.
“We are looking forward to it,” Arteta stated at his pre-match press conference. “These are the types of evenings we want to have against a great opponent. We’re ready for it.
“Everybody is looking forward to it. We missed it for several years, and last year was the first time we were able to do it. This season’s group stage differs somewhat. The opponent we’ll face tomorrow is perhaps at the greatest level of European football. But it is an excellent opportunity for us to demonstrate how we handle it, how prepared we are, and how we can impose ourselves in this type of situation.”
Arteta revealed that Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White are both available against PSG, despite the former experiencing an injury scare in the 4-2 victory against Leicester City.
