Manchester City has officially confirmed the acquisition of Claudio Echeverri from River Plate. The transfer agreement involves an initial fee of £12.5 million, with additional payments based on performance. The 18-year-old has entered into a contractual agreement with the Etihad until June 2028. However, as per the arrangement, the player will continue to remain at the Argentinian club for the remainder of 2024.
City have acquired the services of the youthful midfielder from the identical club they recruited Julian Alvarez from two years prior. City acquired Alvarez for a sum of £14m in the mentioned transaction, granting him the opportunity to return to River Plate on loan for a duration of six months until the commencement of City’s pre-season in 2022/23.
The agreement for Echeverri, who is of a younger age compared to Alvarez at the time of his signing with City, will follow a comparable structure, with Echeverri remaining at River Plate until January 2025.
