Manchester United had a terrible first half performance against Ange Postecoglou’s side, as Brennan Johnson tapped home from Mickey van de Ven’s cross in the early minutes of the game.
Manchester United fans were irate as they demanded Erik ten Hag’s dismissal midway through their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.
The Red Devils had a disastrous first half against Ange Postecoglou’s side, with Brennan Johnson tapping home from Mickey van de Ven’s cross in the first three minutes before Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a high challenge on James Maddison.
Spurs then made the ideal start to the second half with Dejan Kulusevski’s goal, compounding United’s agony, with away supporters screaming “you’re getting sacked in the morning” to Ten Hag. Dominic Solanke scored three goals later in the half in the pouring rain, as Spurs dominated. They recorded the greatest xG (4.67) of any away team ever in a Premier League encounter at Old Trafford.
But long before the game in Manchester ended, several United supporters made it apparent that they had had enough of the Dutchman, clamoring for his dismissal before the second half even began. One supporter commented, “We’re always being tormented on the pitch. We require a dark arts coach. We should also start playing dirty. “Ten Hag Out!”
Another enraged fan remarked, “Gets the players he wants. There’s no game plan. Makes easy games appear complex. Good players look like rubbish under him. Just press conferences and blacklisting players. “Get Erik Ten Hag out of Manchester United!”
“Ill-disciplined, running around like headless chickens,” said another enthusiast. “They don’t know where they are meant to be or their jobs, I’m afraid it’s time to go.”One said that there was no indication that the former Ajax manager could turn things around at Old Trafford, adding, “When do we say enough is enough! @ManUtd?” Because if you still believe this man can change things, the question is when and how.
Gary Neville delivered a scathing assessment of United’s first-half performance, focusing on Marcus Rashford and Fernandes.
“It just sums up Manchester United in this first half, to be fair they’ve been an absolute disgrace,” he said Sky Sports during the match. “It’s one of the worst performances I’ve seen in Erik ten Hag’s time at Manchester United and that’s saying something.”
On Fernandes, he added: “When players respond like way, it suggests something has happened that we didn’t anticipate coming. Bruno Fernandes has gone knee high. I suppose he slips right before the tackle, but he won’t get away with it.”
And at the conclusion of the game, Neville doubled down on his first-half criticisms, saying: “It was an absolutely horrible performance in that first half in terms of effort, quality, everything you would want in a football team.
“There will be a lot of questions to answer for that group (of players) and the manager in the next week.”Ashley Young, a former Manchester United winger, also spoke out after the match. He remarked, “Manchester United simply did not commit.” There was no effort, no work rate, no one ran, and there were no leaders on the field.
“Everything appeared disconnected. There appeared to be an overwhelming number of people scattered around the area. Nobody wanted to take the ball or produce anything. Everything was horrible from beginning to end.
“When we chatted at halftime about who was the home team, Tottenham were so at ease. They did not do nothing. They didn’t fall behind. Tottenham’s two center backs were not disturbed.
“It looked like Tottenham were the home time, United fans are going to go home disappointed and rightly so as well.”Jamie Redknapp was likewise not pleased by United.
“It was so simple for Tottenham. “They looked comfortable, calm, and not under any duress,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “Manchester United and Ten Hag are going backwards. You can’t complain anymore; he has his back four in place and all of his players at his disposal; there are no excuses.
“They’re at rock bottom right now. I really don’t see where they can go from here. They are as terrible as I’ve ever seen a United team.
“This is embarrassing. A club of its standing should not put on such performances. They’ve been outworked, which has been the most devastating thing for me in the previous several games.”
