After Manchester United’s victory over Brentford last week, Darren Fletcher was embroiled in an incident in the tunnel with the referee. The FA has since issued a sanction against the coach.
The FA has cited Darren Fletcher with misconduct for his conduct toward the match officials subsequent to Manchester United’s victory over Brentford.
In first-half added time, referee Samuel Barrott compelled United defender Matthijs de Ligt to leave the field in order to receive treatment for a head injury that had not yet stopped hemorrhaging.
Ethan Pinnock of Brentford scored from a corner while De Ligt was receiving treatment on the side of the field. United was left incensed at being a man down and conceding as a result of Barrott’s decision.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of the Red Devils, and his assistant, Ruud van Nistelrooy, were both issued yellow cards for their vehement protestations. Fletcher continued to be enraged as the teams disbanded at halftime. In the summer, the Scot was demoted from his position as technical director and is currently employed on Ten Hag’s coaching staff.
In the tunnel at Old Trafford, footage captured Fletcher arguing with fourth official Gavin Ward as the official entered the tunnel at halftime, followed by Barrott and his assistants. The Football Association has now determined that Fletcher’s objections exceeded the acceptable level.
Darren Fletcher has been charged with misconduct in the Premier League following Manchester United’s match against Brentford on Saturday, October 20, according to a statement from the regulating body.
“It is alleged that the coach acted in an improper and/or confrontational manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards the fourth official, the referee, and/or assistant referees.” Darren Fletcher is required to respond by Tuesday, October 29.
Ten Hag was incensed by Barrott’s decision to compel De Ligt to leave the field. He acknowledged that the ‘angry’ nature of all United personnel was the driving force behind their comeback victory.
“We were unaware of the reason why the referee removed one of our players from the field during a critical moment.” It was desiccated blood; it had occurred previously. Then, in a critical moment on a corner from them, which is their strength, they drag one of our finest headers off, and Brentford take advantage of it,” he told Match of the Day.
“Of course, you are irritated.” Anger was prevalent among all individuals. We interpreted that as propellant. With a swift start in the second half, we demonstrated our determination to rectify the situation, which we achieved by scoring two stunning goals.
“We are delighted to have emerged victorious in the game.” United requires both the ability to win contests and the ability to provide entertainment. I believe that the afternoon was pleasant for all. In particular, the manner in which it transpired, which saw you concede an unjust goal.
“In the second half, we demonstrated unity, determination, and two stunning goals.” I am exceedingly pleased for our supporters. Regardless of the opposition we face, they remain our staunch supporters. I believe that they were one of the factors contributing to the rapid start following the halftime break.
