Manchester City midfielder Rodri has played a key role in leading Spain reach the 2024 European Championship final.
The 28-year-old, who participated in 50 games in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s team the previous season, has played more minutes in the Euros than any other outfield player in the Spain team.
This weekend’s final matchup against England is anticipated to feature the midfield player. Given that they might face him on Sunday, Rodri has singled out one of his City teammates as being especially strong.
According to Rodri, Phil Foden could be a problem for Spain against England.
During the conversation about Sunday’s final, Rodri shared his thoughts on the standout member of the England team in a recent interview with AS.
“They have a lot of them,” he said in his remarks. Phil Foden is someone I like because I know him, and he’s at City right now.
“He’s a player who needs to be kept in check because of his natural ability to move around in a confined space.”
“That said, there are a lot of players that can deal a lot of damage.” I would rather not focus on just one player. I like to paint a whole picture of England. We take out our weapons and fight each other one-on-one.
Rodri knows just what Foden is capable of.
Foden’s first-half performance against the Netherlands was praised by Roy Keane, and Rodri will be well aware of his ability given that the two of them played together for City in 192 games and combined for eight goals.
Even though the Englishman hasn’t been able to help the Three Lions score a goal or create an assist in this tournament, his joint-second-highest total of shot-creating actions in the England squad shows why Spain may want to take him into consideration in the championship game.
Many City fans will certainly be intrigued by the prospect of Foden taking on Rodri, since one or three City players are predicted to win another trophy this coming weekend.
