Manchester United suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham on Sunday.
Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke scored to lead United to defeat. Erik ten Hag’s team struggled from the start and fell down just three minutes when Johnson tapped home at the back post following good work from Micky van de Ven.
United’s challenge of getting back into the game was made much more difficult when Bruno Fernandes received a straight red card shortly before halftime. And United fell behind 2-0 just after the break as Kulusevski scored from close range.
Although United began to gain control of the game, they were caught off guard in the 77th minute when Solanke sent a shot past Andre Onana. It concluded 3-0, with boos from the United fans following the final whistle. The focus now shifts to Thursday’s Europa League match against Porto. Ten Hag claims
Following Manchester United’s devastating defeat against Tottenham, Robbie Savage has stated that Erik ten Hag’s tenure at the club is coming to an end. The Dutchman is under increasing pressure following United’s dismal start to the season, which saw them gather only seven points from their first six Premier League games.
Savage, an ex-Birmingham and Leicester midfielder, spoke candidly about the issue on BBC Sport. “I believe his time may be up,” he remarked. “I think they’ve got to make a big decision this week.”
MEN responds: I tend to agree with Savage here. United considered dismissing Ten Hag earlier this summer, and I believe his career at Old Trafford is going to an end. They can’t keep playing like this and expect to progress; something at United needs to change.
I don’t believe Ten Hag will be able to transform United’s performances or results, and the club should make a change before their trip to Porto on Thursday. To allow United more time to get a successor over the line, I would put Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined United in the summer as Ten Hag’s assistant, in charge on an interim basis.
