Arsenal won 4-2 over Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard scored goals in the first half. James Justin got the Foxes back into the game with a headed goal and a stunning shot, but Arsenal eventually triumphed.
Trossard forced an own goal from Wilfred Ndidi in stoppage time, and Kai Havertz made it 4-2.
The Arsenal might have easily won the game by a larger margin. Foxes goalkeeper Mads Hermansen produced an incredible 13 saves to keep the team in the game till injury time.
Following the victory, manager Mikel Arteta was bombarded with questions from reporters, one of which centered on Riccardo Calafiori, who dodged a potential red card in the 70th minute.
Calafiori, who had previously been booked in the 49th minute, was responsible for fouling Facundo Bounanotte.
Referee Sam Barrott did not classify the foul as another yellow card offense. Bounanotte ended up obtaining his own booking after requesting that Barrott show Calafiori a red card.
When asked about the event, Arteta stated that he became’really scared’.
He told Arsenal’s website: “I haven’t seen the action but I got really worried when that happened because he gave the foul, but I haven’t seen the replay.”
This season, Arsenal has dropped Premier League points against Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City. They lost a guy on both instances while they were on top.
The Gunners might have faced a similar scenario against the Foxes, but they were fairly fortunate.
We believe the referee struck a balance later in the game. Oliver Skipp escaped a second yellow card following a clear foul in the final stages.
Nonetheless, Arsenal must be more careful going forward. Calafiori’s red card might have lost them valuable points in their chase of the championship.
